Iowa Recycling Association; Des Moines, IA

“We got involved with Resourceful’s ClearStreams™ after being awarded a grant from Keep Iowa Beautiful (a Keep America Beautiful affiliate) to start a library loan program for any city, county, community or group that has an event.

The program has been so successful! The units have been booked every weekend from June to August. There has been a trickle down effect. Of the communities that have used them, 5 or 6 have gone back and purchased their own ClearStreams™ for their own, local loan library. So, from our big loan library we have has spawned these little ones.

They are wildly successful! Everybody likes them and uses them, especially the City of Dubuque, Iowa. They bought 45 of their own, and borrowed ours for a total of 100 ClearStreams for 300,000 people at their River Fest, which takes place the last weekend of June. They had nearly 100% effectiveness with the ClearStream™ Recyclers. They have performed exactly as advertised and the City was really happy and pleased with the results. They were a winner of the 2004 Best Local Recycling Program award for their ClearStream program. (See more info at: www.iowarecycles.org/awards.htm)

We have used our ClearStreams™ for every Association event since we bought them, and will continue to use them next year at events like the Des Moines Art Festival. Communities have to book a year in advance to use our 50 ClearStreams, because they are so popular

Wendy S. Wittrock, Operations Manager
Cass County Landfill & Recycling Center, Atlantic, Iowa

"We used our the Iowa Recycling Association's ClearStream™ Recycling units for our local Cass County Fair, through their loan-library system. The ClearStreams™ were so effective that the Agency purchased 10 units to use at future events! Now, the local event planners contact us to borrow the containers, and we provide the units and bags for their event. The ClearStreams™ convenient design and easy setup make them a hit! We are happy to provide the community with such a useful product while still accomplishing our objective of promoting successful recycling!"

Marta Turner, Recycling Coordinator
Rome / Floyd Recycling Center, GA

"As the Recycling Coordinator, I often times set up the units myself. With the ClearStream, I can use a station wagon to easily transport several frames, lids and bags at one time, without the hassle of having to call public works and get a crew! Event recycling is so important and by our having the ClearStreams available [on a loaner-system], anyone can call us and easily pick up units for their event and then just return the containers with the recyclables they collected at their event. I love the bags! The fact that they are so clear and so well marked encourages recycling and keeps contaminants down!"

Steve Parker, Director
Boston Mountain Waste District; Prairie Grove, AR

"We bought 20 of the ClearStream units to make available to local communities (like Fayeville, Rogers Community, and Prairie Grove) when they have special events. We've had great success – the only problem was that somebody wanted 25 and we only had 20!”

Roy DeWitt
Waste Commission of Scott County & Keep Scott County Beautiful, Davenport, Iowa

"The recycling program for Keep Scott County Beautiful has recently branched out to include event recycling. We and we had opportunity to borrow the ClearStreams from the Iowa Recycling Association (IRA) for our Xstream Clean Up event. They worked out very well for us for our outdoor events. It is very easy to get clean recyclables (no contamination), which is important to the recycling process center.Plans for future programs include illegal-dumping programs and Adopt-A-Road. We have also proposed a pilot project with the local, minor-league baseball club to place semi-permanent ClearStreams™ in their stadium. We are also applying for grant-funding to help us purchase more units. The IRA has had a lot of success in loaning the ClearStreams™ out to other agencies throughout Iowa. Most notable was last summer's annual bike ride across Iowa, which gets tens of thousands of bikers. They positioned the units where the bike riders would be stopping, so there would be some type of recycling presence at each of those 10 villages. I know of the one gentleman who works at one of the villages. He had very good look at the ClearStreams™, and said that they didn't take up very much of space and were easy to transport, very light wait and yet still very sturdy. They worked out very well for him, and I know Dewayne with the IRA is looking at purchasing more ClearStreams™ because he has had such a demand for them.”

JoAnn Herrigel, Community Service Director
City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin

"We used the ClearStream containers at our Farmer's Market every Sunday, and at one large event this summer. They containers are amazingly popular with more than just the city / staff people. We collect recyclables 100% free of contamination! We are ecstatic! They're easy to move; people like them and use them! We're now working on a regional loaner system because we've had so many requests from people to use them at their events!"

Linda Holterhoff, Program Manager
City of Cincinnati Recycling Program; Cincinnati, Ohio

"We love the ClearStream™ Recyclers! We started looking for a product that was easy to handle because the containers that we were using were big and bulky, and therefore people wouldn't use them. We saw your literature and decided to try the ClearStream™ and it has worked perfectly! It is so convenient! We can throw the units in a car, add the bags, and a way we go! The community absolutely loves them because they are easy to work with: just set them up, lock the bag on, and people started to recycle! We used them at a big event called River Fest with 500,000 people, and plan to use them again next year! Recently we received a grant that we didn't spend all the money, so we purchased more ClearStreams™ to loan out during The Great American Clean Up to the community groups because they are always asking for a more convenient way to recycle. We will also make them available for other community events, like church festivals."

John Deuel, Executive Director Northfolk Environmental Commission
& Recycling Coordinator for City of Northfolk, Virginia

“We used the ClearStream™ Recyclers to collect compostable material (food waste, paper plates, etc.) for our 25th anniversary celebration last month. We took off the lids and just used the frames with the clear bags. They worked very well because we could just bag up the material after the event. We are collaborating with the Park and Forestry staff and crews, the FestEvents planners, and the Material Recycling Facility to implement a recycling plan for our downtown spring and summer events. Either the City will purchase them and distribute them, or the Festival will purchase the units, themselves. We have a lot of events with a lot of people. We've found that the ClearStream™ system is an effective way to provide convenience for people to recycle.”

Barbara Wulf, Recycling Coordinator
City of Oxnard, California

“We received a grant from the California DOC to purchase 500 ClearStream Recyclers. In May of 2004, we used about 350 of them at the California Strawberry Festival, which hosts about 70,000 people over 3 days. For the first time we were able to achieve the DOC’s goal of 80% recovery, and we the ClearStreams did it with virtually no contamination.

That’s really amazing, because we’ve tried recycling at other events, and we get a lot of contamination. We’ve used blue containers with blue lids and people can’t see what’s in there and trash ends up in them. We’ve had very little contamination with the ClearStream™. We’re really happy about that, and plan to use the Recyclers at many events in the future!
